SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is the foundation of successful internet marketing, and every website that wants to improve traffic levels should use it. Before you can optimize your site for search engine ranking, however, you need to get it indexed by search engines in the first place. If your website isn’t indexed, it won’t show up on the Google search results page. You can get your site indexed by Google quickly if you know the different ways to let Google know it’s there.
This article will present some tips to get your site indexed by Google as quickly as possible.

Submit a sitemap file to Google. An XML sitemap file has links to every page of your whole website. These XML sitemaps can be easily generated online. In fact, Google has a tool to do it for you, and some blog sites will do it for you. Once Google has your sitemap, they’ll send in the robots to index it.
Have HTML text links on your website to other pages on your website. Google bots will follow text links to find other pages of your site. If you do this strategically, you’ll allow Google to follow all your text links to discover all the pages on your website.

You should submit your website to directories that are search engine friendly. These directories include DMOZ, BOTW, and Yahoo Directory. The Google bots visit these directories every day, and if your site is listed there, you’ll get noticed. Bear in mind that not all directories are free. Sometimes you have to pay a fee. If cost is an issue, find out what the fee is before submitting anything.

Put your website’s URL on popular social networking sites. Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter are indexed regularly by search engines. If your URL is on these sites, the bots can find it and index it quickly.

Submit your pages to popular social bookmarking sites. These are sites like StumbleUpon and Digg, and Google checks them out frequently. Every day, Google’s bots visit these sites and find new content to index. Once your website is submitted on one of these bookmarking sites, Google will probably pick it up within 24 hours.
Submit articles with links to your site to article directories. Include your URL in the author’s resource box. Sites like GoArticles.com, EzineArticles, and Work.com are good directories to send articles to.

SEO is the key to the success of your website, and getting your website indexed by Google is the first step toward SEO. Get your links on the sites that the Google bots regularly index, and your site will be indexed on Google very quickly.

The Fundamentals of SEO

Posted by: | Comments (2)

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) won’t do much for you if you try to employ it without knowing what it is about. Fundamentals of SEO can carry you a long way as you improve your site’s quality and visibility. SEO is important enough that when used properly, it will consistently get your site ranked highly with the major search engines. This article covers five SEO tips that will help those who are new to search engine optimization.

Informative Content

Writing informative content that is useful and well written  is something that all websites should do. You should also make that content fairly rich in keywords. Search engines are the number one source for most internet content, so that the higher you rank in the search engine ranking the more traffic your website will get. But a high search engine ranking means little if they only direct readers to a sales page or a totally different web page than what they thought they were getting. If a reader has to click through three or four things to get to your site, they’ll often think it isn’t worth their time and leave.

Make sure that the text makes sense. People everywhere recognize the motives behind content so keyword stuffed that it’s about to pop all over the Thanksgiving table. Though such sites may temporarily achieve high search engine rankings, nobody will come back twice to a site that is simply full of key phrases and nonsense.

Research of the Keywords

Keyword research helps you find keywords with the most to offer to your site. They should describe what your research is about specifically. Good keywords will describe your site accurately to the search engines, so that means you should do some research  to find great “niche” keyword for your site. Keep keywords specific, and use research tools like Google Adworks to help you find good ones that have the least competition. That will help you move up in the rankings steadily.

Keyword Meta Tag

The Keyword meta tag is something that search engine robots look at to see what your website is about and send relevant traffic to it accordingly. Insert all your targeted keywords if you have multiple keywords or key phrases. But don’t repeat them or overuse them because if you do, your site may be eventually banned by the engines for serving up spam.

Description Tags

If you add a description tag to your website, it should be rich in keywords, but it should also make sense. Keyword stuffing is frowned upon by people searching for stuff on the web and by search engines. Use descriptive sentences that use keywords, but not so many as to make it hard to read. Informative and keyword rich are the keys to getting the most bang for your description tag.

Good Page Titles

Use well-researched keywords directly in the title of your page. For one thing, it’s very informative to visitors, and is the phrase that shows up in the search engine results. Don’t skip this step. Title tags pack a lot of punch. Besides, without it, your page won’t have a title and will look amateurish. There’s really no downside to doing this.

With these tips, you can give your site’s search engine ranking a boost by getting it indexed by the major search engines and increasing unique traffic. Don’t try to game the search engines. While it may work for a little while, you can rest assured that once engines find a way to crack open unsavory techniques, they will rank you lower, or even ban you altogether. It can’t be done overnight, but you can definitely improve your ranking by using these tips.

A year ago, you may not have known what SEO (Search Engine Optimization) stood for, let alone what it meant. But it has taken the Internet by storm as one of the fastest growing online niches. There are plenty of obvious reasons for this, the major one being that search engines generate most online traffic, and that does not appear to be changing any time soon. This means that your search engine ranking has a direct effect on your site’s visibility and bottom line.

This article will list a few ways that you can boost your search engine rankings, build traffic, and work toward long-term growth of your site based on sound SEO techniques. Let’s get right to them.

Optimizing Content

Content optimization is still important, though tricks like stuffing your content with keywords are rapidly falling out of favor with search engines. Bad content won’t draw repeat traffic to your site, even if you have a good search engine ranking.

The title is the most important element on your website. Optimizing the title can be tricky, but it’s worth your while. You want your targeted keywords as close to the beginning of the title as possible, and they should be mentioned several times throughout the page. At the same time, your titles need to sound natural and not contrived so that readers won’t mistake it for a bunch of nonsense and skip it when they see it in their search results. Catchy, well-optimized titles are the holy grail of web pages, improving click through rates and rankings. At this point, content optimization is as much an art as a science, but there are a few SEO tools you can try to get a better handle on what “optimized content” means. One tool is called Website Auditor. They have a free trial version you can download to see if it suits your aims, and a paid version with more features.

Choosing the Best Keywords

The goal is to rank high in Google searches for keywords that get searched a lot. A keyword that is searched a lot, and has little in the way of competition is like gold, as long as it is relevant to your site. When it comes to keywords, traffic is only one factor. Focused keyword research is vital to improving your site’s traffic. You want keywords and key phrases that relate closely to your business’s services or products. There may be keywords in your niche that are hot right this minute, and it’s OK to take advantage of that, but also using keywords that have sticking power – the so-called “long tail” keywords, are better in the long term.

Many keyword research tools are available for free and for a price. These programs help you to develop your keyword list and estimate potential traffic. This will assist you in setting priorities for the keywords you research. Google Adwords External Keyword Tool is a good service, as are Word Stream and Rank Tracker, Keyword Discovery, and Wordtracker.

Building Back-links

This is the key to long term success of your site. The more links there are to your site, the more traffic it will get. However, they need to be from quality websites. That means that the use of paid linking services and free link farms is not a good idea. Search engines that are able to sniff this out penalize sites for it by ranking them lower. To get legitimate links from quality websites, there are several things you can do. You can submit pages to directories, submit relevant articles leading back to your site, and bookmark your site with social bookmarking services like Digg and StumbleUpon. Commenting in relevant blogs helps, although leaving a link in a comment is frowned upon by some blog owners and forums. Searching out your competition can help too. What do they have that you don’t? A clean page design? Easy navigation? It isn’t exactly rocket science. You can figure some of this out pretty easily sometimes.
Link building is a time consuming process, but it is vital to your site’s long term success. You can use SEO software to help the process along, but they won’t do all the work for you. Good link building and link analysis tools include LinkAssistant, Backlinkwatch, and SEO Spyglass.

Improving your site’s search engine rankings is not an overnight process (unless you happen to be writing about a topic that suddenly booms in popularity due to other media coverage). If you regularly use multiple approaches to SEO improvement, your ranking will go up steadily, as will click-throughs and sales.

SEO for Bing

Posted by: | Comments (0)

Search Engine Optimization for Microsoft’s new Bing search engine involves different steps than with other search engines. With Bing, you don’t have to submit your site to search engines or get a bunch of links from other sources just to be indexed.

As soon as Bing was released, online marketing experts wanted to know how to get their websites to the top of the results page. Here are a few SEO tips to help you maximize your exposure with Bing.

To bubble to the top of Bing, you should have a title that is directly connected with the subject. Linking out is encouraged, also. The problem is that many marketers are afraid to link out too much for fear their page rank will be lowered, particularly on Google.
Bing appears to prefer pages with at least 350 words of text, so try to have enough text on your page. In most engines, this isn’t really a big factor, but it is with Bing.

Bing also tends to care about how long ago the domain was registered. So there may be times when it would be beneficial to purchase older domains to improve results positioning in Bing.

Keep your HTML clean. Try to use only well-written HTML on your pages. Make sure that you close all the paired tags and check to see that all the links open on the right web page. You can find out more on validating your HTML code using either HTTP Conditional Get Test Tool, W3C Markup Validation Service, or HTTP Compression. If your site has broken links, then the MSN Bot will have a hard time indexing your site effectively, which could prevent people from accessing all your pages. To learn more about identifying broken links, search on Bing’s Help topic for the “Webmaster Center’s Crawl Issues” tool.
Make sure that if you’ve moved a web page that you’ve also set up the original web page’s URL so that it will redirect to the new web page. It is also good to indicate if the move is permanent or not. Be certain that the MSN Bot is allowed to crawl your website. If you have a list of web crawlers prohibited from indexing your site, check it to see if the MSN Bot is on it.

Use a Robots.txt file or use tags to help control how the MSN Bot and other crawlers index your site. The Robots.txt file can be used to prevent web crawlers from crawling on specific files and folders. It is a good idea to keep all your URLs simple and unchanging. Complicated URLs, or those that change a lot are hard for the MSN Bot to index as link destinations. And it makes good common sense. A meaningful, steady URL is easier for people to remember so they can bookmark it. That helps keep your site visible by attracting links from other websites.

This should apply regardless, but do keep an eye out for malicious software. Find out if links to pages on your site lead to malware on third part sites, or contain corrupted documents or images, bad JavaScript, or ActiveX controlled. These will be highlighted or even disabled as malware in the Bing result listings.  While back links are important to your ranking in Bing, it is important to monitor the quality of those links. Never use link farms or paid link services, and make sure your content is directly relevant to your keywords.

SEO Tips for WordPress

Posted by: | Comments (0)

There is a reason that WordPress is such a popular platform for blogging. The way it is designed can significantly boost your search engine rankings, meaning you get many more visitors. Even so, you should also do what you can to maximize your search engine standings. Here are some tips.

Put keywords in your blog post titles. While you can get away with less than optimal post titles for your regular readers, you need to attract new readers as well. Therefore, you want to give your blog posts titles that are search engine friendly. To do that, use keywords in them. And to keep those new readers, you have to make the title relevant to the actual content.

Build back links. Each back link (a link from other sites to yours) is a vote of confidence in your site. The more of them you have, the better regarded your site is.  If you have plenty of back links, it means that you’ll be more successful in competing for popular search engine keywords, and you’ll bubble up toward the top of the listings.

Permalinks are your friend. Permalinks are links that go directly to specific forum or blog posts even after they scroll off the page into the archives. If a particular post gets lots of attention via permalinks, that means it’s a “sticky” post and helps your search engine ranking. Whatever permalink structure you use, make sure the title of the post is in the URL. It’s another way to squeeze a little more work out of those keywords. Read More→

If you have a website from which you wish to profit, you want it to be as attractive to the major search engines as possible. The more relevant your site looks to a search engine, the higher your ranking, and the more traffic will get to your site.

While traffic numbers are important, they aren’t the whole story. If that were the case everyone would put porn on their site to maximize the traffic. No, to rank well with search engines and float up to the top of their rankings, you not only have to have quantity traffic, but also quality traffic. That means the kind of traffic that’s likely to stick around and buy something. Optimizing your website means finding those visitors and getting them to visit and come back.

There are numerous things you can do, but perhaps the most important is to have good content on your site. Search engines know when you’re just stuffing your site with keywords, and they’ll think you’re spam. But the bigger reason is that if you did stuff your content with keywords and did successfully rise to the top of the search engine rankings, it wouldn’t really matter, because people don’t like spammy sites and don’t want to buy things from them.
