Web Design University
Posted by: | CommentsI found a wonderful new web design course operated by the good people from iThemes. They have a ton of information they present on a variety of design topics and also have some very good information on actually running your business too. I found the videos on how to use Firefox add-ons very helpful and easy to understand. Best part is many of these tools are free and can be quickly obtained. They are giving a ton of advice on using WordPress to not only build a Blog, but as a Company or personal website. This was one area of great interest to me and I found many shortcuts and excellent advice in setting up WordPress to work well with SEO.
One topic that went into excellent detail was Branding. I know that many users can benefit from this and how important it can be to the success of your Blog or Business.
The site is easy to use and the recordings and videos are professionally produced. I joined with the yearly membership option and know I already have received training that is more valuable than the price of the membership and I’m only in the second month.

Super Green Web Hosting - Beware!
Posted by: | CommentsI just received this note from one of our readers. “After seeing the link on your website, I decided to sign up with Super Green Web Hosting. I found their rates good and decided to go for the three year term and paid upfront via PayPal. Their site advertises “Instant Activation” which could not be further from the truth. After waiting 14 hours, I contacted their online chat and was informed that my account would be live in a couple of hours. Not true. I waited an additional 8 hours with no welcome e-mail then contacted the online support. After waiting a few minutes a rep came online and asked the domain I signed up with. This was the same question the earlier rep had asked and it was in the form when you start the chat. After checking for a few minutes he came back and wanted to know If I had received a phone call or e-mail for account verification. I told him I had received two e-mails and I had replied to them right away. He informed me my account was on hold and he needed all of my information and he would forward it to the billing department. I became very uncomfortable with this style of business and told the rep this. He then asked the same question about the additional information with I felt was not reasonable sending over a non-sure chat service.
I then asked to cancel the registration and refund my PayPal account as I was going to another host. He never replied and I have been forced to open a PayPal dispute. It is now 48 hours later and Super Green Hosting has not replied to my PayPal dispute and they still have my money. I have researched a bit more and found that they have a Sister Company Justhost.com I will not give this Company or any Company associated with Super Green Web Hosting my business in the future.
I just wanted to warn your readers of the terrible service I received from this outfit.”
All about mobile blogging
Posted by: | CommentsA blog used to be mostly a sort of an online diary in which you could write about anything that you felt about. The best thing about it is that people who are reading your posts can actually comment on it, discuss it or even add any suggestions to it. Thus, it is a great way to interact, something like a forum, with the only difference that you are the sole controller of your blog.
Blogging has come quite far now these days. Blogs have graduated from being online diaries to a medium to express yourself, share your beliefs and even to do business. In fact, people have found this medium to be a great way to interact with their prospects and that too, without spending a dime.
Now, the most common way to update your blog would be through your laptop or computer. However, one more way that is fast catching up is mobile blogging or in other words, moblogging.
People lead fast lives and this is a very convenient method to keep an eye on your blog as you go about your other work. While your moblog will not be too different from any traditional blog, it will provide you the ease of blogging while moving.
Mobile phones are no longer unaffordable. They are just as easy to purchase as they are to use and it is simple enough to blog with them. You can do all kinds of things such as sharing stories, experiences, pictures or even videos with your mobile blog.
In order to have your mobile blog, you will need to choose a network that provides surfing the web online. You should get a mobile handset that can support these features as well.
The best thing about moblogging is that you do not have to wait to have access to a computer nor do you have to carry your laptop with you everywhere. If you find something interesting to share then you can do it immediately. This ease and pace makes mobile blogging so interesting and attractive.
If you already have an online blog then you can make it mobile by simply registering the number of your mobile handset and this will activate your mobile blogging service. Now, you are ready to do posts from just about anywhere and at any time using your phone.
You can communicate, interact and update the blog regularly without the need of being in front of a computer. This is the ease that moblogging provides.
New Script for Blogs
Posted by: | CommentsIf you’re a blogger like me, you’ll know that one of the biggest challenges we face is getting repeat traffic.
A great way to do that of course is by building a mailing list of opt-in subscribers.
The problem is how to capture your visitor’s details without alienating them with a huge great hover popin.
Well now I think I’ve found a solution…
I’ve recently come across a cool little script called Ultimate Footer Ad that slides a small strip up from the bottom of your browser.
You can use it to capture email subscribers, as well as convert visitors to rss subscribers or twitter followers.
It does it all…
What it doesn’t do is annoy your visitors by stopping them from reading your valuable content.
The feedback on this software has been amazing:
John Chow describes it as…
- One of the best promotional tools I have ever used.
And Legendary marketer Terry Dean had this to say…
- I’ve added 126 extra new subscribers to my list just in the past week.
Not only that, it’s dead simple to use. You can literally have this thing installed and running on your website in 10 minutes.
So if you’re looking for a way to increase traffic and revenues with your blog, grab your copy of Ultimate Footer Ad before this really catches on…
P.S. Top UK marketer Frank Haywood used this tool to increase his average daily blog subscription by 249.84%. So the longer you wait, the more subscribers you’re missing out on. Check out it out!
Blogging Vs a Daytime Job
Posted by: | CommentsYou build your résumé, you go for several interviews, you get a call back and congratulations, you have just gotten the job that you’ve been hoping you’d get. It’s now your first day. You grab that new suit and tie and sit in the worst rush hour traffic that you’ve ever been a part of. You finally get to the office and get to see your new cubicle. Just like all the others in the office and it looks like you have become yet another rat in the trap of life. It doesn’t take long to have your desk completely covered with paperwork of reports and documents that need to be processed yesterday. You think back and remember the day when you first started at your job. You remember how happy and excited you were thinking that this was the “new†you, and that you were really going to move up in the world. But what actually happened is you have fallen into a rut. This rut can keep you from using your whole potential and becoming what you wanted to become.
You have wanted to work for yourself for a long time. But how can you make that happen? There are many ways of making things happen. As long as you have the willpower and the attitude to move forward in your life and make a change happen, you can make anything happen in your life. So how do you go from the daily grind 9-5 to waking up at a leisurely hour and working in your p.j.’s if you want? Having an office at home does take some discipline. Separating your work life from your home life does take an adjustment period when you first start doing it. You may even want to keep your daytime hours like you had when you were in an office until you can grasp a really good ideal schedule between work and home. Because your work and home will be within the same space, taking the time to create your own “office†will be a necessity.
Creating your office space is something that can be difficult. On your days off you will want to stay out of that area if possible to keep that distance between work and home. On the days you are working, it is easy to become distracted. Either by kids, the phone, friends or your favorite daytime television show. It is best to set your recorder to record your favorite shows, shut the ringer off on your phone and allow your answering machine to pick up your calls and if possible, see if you can still have your children in a daycare setting. That way you can have as little distractions as possible.
By using these tips above you will see that moving from a work place environment to a home environment can be a fairly easy transition, as long as you have all of the positive environment changes in place!
Earn While You Blog
Posted by: | CommentsEarn While You Blog
A blog is nothing but a type of personal website. A typical blog consists of text, images, link to another blog, web pages and many more things. But the question is how to earn money through blogging? There are many ways to make money through blogging. The ways are as follows:
•   PPC Advertising Networks- There are many popular advertising networks but among them Google Ad Sense is the most popular. You have to just sign up in the network and paste some code information on the website. Afterwards the network will post related ads on the website and on every click you will earn money.
The money mainly depends upon the traffic level of the website and also on click      through rate (CTR) and cost per click (CPC). The well known CPC Advertising networks are – Yahoo Publisher Network (YPN), Bidvertiser, Chitika and Clicksor.
•   CPM Advertising Networks- CPM Advertising Networks are very much similar to PPC Advertising Networks. CPM stands for Cost per Miles and paid according to the number of impressions. It generally refers to 1000 impressions. CPM depends upon the network and the position of ads. If the ads are posted at the top of the page the CPM is more. Some of the popular CPM networks are - Casale Media, Burst Media, Value Click, Right media, etc.
•   Direct Banner Advertising – It is used to sell your own advertising space. It is also profitable as there is no middleman. The famous banner formats found on web are the 728*90 leader board, the 120*600 skyscrapers etc.
•   Affiliate Marketing – In this system, there is a merchant that will allow other people to sell their products and in return you will get commission. This is also known as CPA (Cost per Action) or CPL (Cost per lead). Some popular affiliate market places are Azoogle ads, Commission Junction, Link Share, etc.
•   Sponsored Reviews – You can write sponsored reviews on a certain range on topics and for writing you will be paid. But at first you have to join a market places. Some of sponsored review networks are PayPerPost, ReviewMe, Smorty, etc.
•   Job Boards – It is one of the famous methods to earn money through blogging. All blogs use job boards for their extra income. The famous job board software is JobThread, Jobbex, Web Scribe Job Board, etc.
•   Paid Services and polls – There are certain websites that will pay you to arrange polls on that site such as Vizu Answers.
•   Selling or Renting internal pages – This concept is very popular. The websites sell or rent their internal pages in case of heavy traffic. But in case of small websites implementing this can be quite difficult.
•   In-Text Adverting – In text links are different from normal links, as it comes in the form of double underline. When a visitor clicks on that link, the advertisement will pop and the owner will make some money. The well known In-Text Adverting networks are Kontera and Vibrant media.
Blogging and Journaling
Posted by: | CommentsRemember being a kid and writing a journal or diary? Trying to keep that safe and hidden from your little brother and your parents could be a chore. How the thought of someone getting a hold of that journal and reading it aloud would just crush you. Your deepest and darkest secrets and thoughts were always safe within the covers of that book. As long as it stayed hidden and closed!
Today’s diaries and journals can still consist of the paper and pen thoughts that are written down and safely tucked away from others so the thoughts can stay private. There are also diaries and journals that are kept out in the open for everyone to read. These types of journals and diaries are called ‘Blogs’. There are all kinds of ways to keep a blog. These are always online but you can make these available for everyone to read, so anyone who crosses your site can have access to your blog and is able to read whatever you have written, or you can have these private to where only a few members or followers can read what you have written.
There are blogs online that are written about everything. Whether you want to talk about horse races, auto races or even down to food and child rearing. Anything you would like to discuss can be discussed on a blog. Any private thoughts you want to make public can be entered onto your blog and the whole world will know what is going on with you and your life.
A lot of families will chronolog their lives and have the family photos as well as what is happening in the lives of that family to keep others up to date. Instead of having to send out individual e-mails to each family member, you can post the most recent events that are happening as soon as it happens. Some families will do this weekly and this is a way of keeping in touch with others.
The art of writing blogs is really something that you can get to know quite quickly. It doesn’t take very long to get it down. By keeping the people who are closest to you in the loop will help keep your family close. And by keeping a diary or journal, you’ll be able to remember all of the stories from your life that you may want to pass down to generations that are yet to come. Remember that these journals and diaries aren’t the kind you’ll have to hide from your little brother. These are the kind that you can let the whole world read!
Beginning Blogging
Posted by: | CommentsBlogging is everywhere in today’s world. It seems that no matter what site you visit online, you will find some sort of online blog. There are comments and blogs about everything everywhere online.
The best way to think of the definition of a ‘blog’ would be a virtual diary. This diary is one that instead of being written on paper would be kept online and could be visible for everyone to read. There are ways that you can restrict the amount of people and who is able to read your entries. A blog can be written in as often as you would like. You can do entries daily or you can update them once a week. It is basically up to you and how often you want your readers and followers to be updated with the newest saga that is going on in your life. You can also have family blogs. Where your followers can follow what you are going to do and what you are doing with your family. This is a simple and easy way to keep your family members up to date with your latest news between family members.
Many will argue that because of the online industry, between e-mails and blogs, our own postal service is dwindling slowly. You can tell the need for money has increased for our postal service since the price of stamps has been on the rise having several cost increases each year. The need for “Snail Mail†as it is referred to is no longer needed as now we can have our bills e-mailed to us and we can pay our bills online. The same would be said for blogs. These would be the same as books. Or e-books as they are commonly referred to as. This can also go so far as to say that we are becoming more environmentally friendly with e-mails and e-books. Neither of these has to be printed on paper. And better yet, there are now devices that you can purchase where you can download books onto the hard drive of this device and read the book at your leisure. There is still an exchange of money for the book, yet the publisher will be able to cut costs because it will not have to send as many copies of the book to print.
When it comes down to it, blogging can be a very useful tool and very good for communications. We have come a long way in communications and because of this, our planet seems to get smaller and smaller each day. There are still days out there that will put today’s communication skills to dust.Pretty soon we’ll be able to communicate in new ways, ways that will seem like they should be in a science fiction movie. But until then, let’s get blogging!
